Georgina Fire and Rescue Services is teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA®) – the official sponsor of Fire Prevention WeekTM (FPW) for more than 100 years – to promote this year’s FPW campaign, “Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.” It highlights how important it is to buy, charge and recycle lithium-ion batteries safely. Fire Prevention Week takes place from Oct. 5 to Oct. 11, 2025.

The Town's collection contract is up for renewal in 2028. Your input will help shape how waste and organics collection is delivered in the future.

As students throughout Georgina return to school, streets and bus routes will be busier than usual. The Town is reminding everyone to stay alert and plan ahead for a safe start to the school year. 

Summer may be ending soon but there is still a lot to do in Georgina in September. Come out to the first-ever Cultural Festival or join us for the Georgina Fire and Rescue Services Open House. You can also get ready for fall by clearing out your unwanted items during bag tag exemption week or at the eWaste event happening at the Georgina Ice Palace. 

The Ontario government is providing one-time financial assistance to support municipalities in parts of York Region, Simcoe County and surrounding areas impacted by the March 28, 2025 ice storm.

“Georgina was one of the hardest hit areas in Central Ontario during the Spring Ice Storm,” said Caroline Mulroney, MPP for York-Simcoe. “Through these programs, our government will help our communities as they recover from storms and natural disasters now and in the future.”

The fire ban on all outdoor and open-air burning in the Town of Georgina will be lifted as of noon today, Aug. 21, 2025.

Residents may now safely enjoy recreational fires and apply for open-air or agricultural burn permits as usual. 

Remember to follow all fire safety guidelines and permit requirements to help keep our community safe. 

As part of the Town of Georgina’s commitment to fostering a vibrant and livable community for all and providing equitable opportunities for people with disabilities, Council has approved the 2025-2029 Multi-Year Accessibility Plan (MYAP). 

The Council of the Town of Georgina invites people to volunteer in their community as a member on one of the following advisory committees. All appointments are for the remainder of the 2022-2026 Term of Council. Current Town board and committee members are encouraged to apply. 

Georgina Economic Development Advisory Committee (GEDC)
The purpose of the Georgina Economic Development Advisory Committee is to support, develop and recommend strategies and implementation plans to support and enhance the Town’s Economic Development and Tourism programs.  

The Georgina Public Library Board is looking to fill a vacancy. All appointments are for the remainder of the 2022-2026 Term of Council.

The Georgina Public Library Board is responsible for the governance and strategic direction of Georgina’s public library system, including all branches and related property. Guided by the Public Libraries Act, the board ensures residents have access to a comprehensive and efficient library service that meets the evolving needs of the community.

Effective immediately and until further notice, a fire ban on all outdoor and open-air burning is in effect for the Town of Georgina. Burning for any purpose including recreational fires is not allowed at this time. 

This ban has been issued for the protection of property and public safety and is being implemented by Fire Chiefs region wide. The Town/Georgina Fire and Rescue Services will not be issuing open-air burn permits or agricultural burn permits until further notice.
