Watershed Conditions Statement - flood outlook

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority advises that warmer temperatures and rain are forecast for this afternoon (Jan. 8) into tomorrow (Jan. 9) in our watershed. Daytime temperatures are expected to range between +2 to +11 degrees Celsius. Rainfall amounts of 10-15 mm are forecast for today and with another 5-10 mm forecast for tomorrow. On Saturday, precipitation between 5 and 15 mm of rain or mixed rain-snow are forecast.

While widespread flooding is not expected, the possibility for flooding in various low-lying areas of the watershed exists due to the expected rainfall and melting of the snowpack. There is also the potential for ice breakup in some areas resulting from melting and increased flows. Ice jams may be possible in some watercourses.

Watercourses will be flowing higher than normal causing local streams and rivers to become dangerous, especially in the vicinity of culverts and bridges. Children and pets should be warned to stay away from all watercourses.

This Watershed Conditions Statement will be in effect through Monday, Jan. 12, 2026, at noon. For further information, contact duty officer Khashayar Saniei at 905-895-1281
