Summer is almost here and that means it’s time to celebrate Canada Day. The Town of Georgina’s event takes place Monday, July 1 at the ROC and Georgina Pioneer Village from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., ending with a fireworks finale. It will be a fun day full of exciting festivities for the whole family. Enjoy live entertainment, children’s activities, inflatables, food and more. The opening ceremonies take place at the main stage at 2 p.m.
The heat is on. Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Georgina and all of York Region. A prolonged heat event will begin today. Dangerously hot and humid conditions are expected through most of the week. Daytime highs through much of the week are expected to be 30 to 35 degrees Celsius with humidex values of 40 to 45.
A tornado watch is in effect for the Town of Georgina and northern York Region. Environment Canada issued the watch which states conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms which may produce tornadoes. Strong winds, large hail and heavy rain are also possible.

A lot is happening in Georgina in June. From opening day at Georgina Pioneer Village to the Father’s Day swim, there are activities for the entire family to enjoy.
Resurfacing of courts in Georgina will start on Monday, June 3, at the ROC (both pickleball and tennis), along with tennis courts at both Whipper Watson Park and Udora Hall.
Construction efforts are expected to take up to four weeks to complete, weather permitting, said the Town of Georgina.
The town notes work crews may not be on each site each day as work will need to be completed in stages.
Update: All waste and recycling collection missed the week of May 20 has now been collected. If residents are still experiencing a missed collection for the week of May 20, please report it to Service Georgina by calling 905-476-4301.

Thunderstorms will develop along a cold front that will move through the province this afternoon and evening. The main threat will be strong winds and hail. However, a tornado will also be possible.
