Enterprise Sunk
August 6, 1903 About 75 passengers on board the steamer Enterprise passed through a danger they knew not of recently. The boat was returning on her regular trip from Jackson's Point and shortly after leaving Big Bay Point the packing around the steam pipe became displaced and permitted the water to pour in. The pumps were applied and the danger temporarily averted. Captain McDonald, however, kept close to the shore, and rather than take chances ran into Mulcaster street wharf, instead of going on to Bayfield Street. The wisdom of this move was demonstrated by the fact that shortly after he did so, the boat sank.
