Baldwin Cemetery
The Baldwin Cemetery, also known by some people as the Cryderman Cemetery and the Free Methodist Cemetery of Baldwin is located in the Town of Georgina, formerly North Gwillimbury Township, Conc. 7, Lot 13, north side of Baldwin Road, one mile west of Hwy. 48.
Form the Registry Office, in Newmarket, we have established that Joel Thompson donated the land for this cemetery early in 1886, and then Mr. Thompson sold an adjacent 3/16 of an acre to the Trustees of the Free Methodist Church at Baldwin in 1899. An existing church was moved to this property and then in 1974 that same church was moved again to its present location as part of the Georgina Historical Village.
The earliest known burial in this cemetery was Roselia LaChapelle who died October 10, 1892. No old Burial Records have been found. The Baldwin Cemetery (also known as Thompson Cemetery) began as a Free Methodist Cemetery and is now non-sectarian and is still active with about 68 burials. The Town of Georgina maintains and is responsible for Baldwin Cemetery.
