Your Bathing Suit
Below are some helpful points to remember when deciding on a bathing suit to be worn in chlorinated water
- Nylon bathing suits withstand chlorinated water the best.
- Spandex or Lycra bathing suits tend to degrade at a faster rate when exposed to chlorinated water
- Cotton bathing suits quickly lose their colour when not rinsed thoroughly after each use.
- Superflex bathing suits withstand chlorinated water very well and the colours stay, however, they are very expensive and are purchased at exclusive aquatic proshops.
Caring for your bathing suit
Always soak and rinse your bathing suit in clean tap water (avoid using detergents, this breaks down these types of materials at a rapid rate).
- Never put your bathing suit in a clothes washer or dryer, this process tends to melt the elastic, spandex and lycra.
- Hang your suit up to drip dry (not in the sun).
- Do not sit directly in front of a return jet in the Beach or Therapy Pool (as this location has the highest concentration of chemicals entering the pools).
Chlorine
Our Pools are disinfected and controlled automatically by the use of liquid chlorine (NaCl2). When the pool area smells strongly of chlorine, it is due to a large concentration of chloramines, which is non-disinfecting chlorine. Super chlorination products "burns" off this "bad chlorine" and allows the "good chlorine" to disinfect properly.
pH. Levels
The pH. reflects the acidity or alkalinity of the water. It is the pH. level of the pool that may irritate your eyes and sometimes causes redness after swimming. Soda Ash or Muriatic Acid are added to either increase or decrease the level of pH. Our pH. levels are automatically controlled by a Carbon Dioxide (CO2) feeder.
Lockers
Lockers are provided at the Georgina leisure Pool. Our personal use lockers allow you to use your own padlock each time you visit. Padlocks must be removed at the end of each swim. If you forget your lock, you may purchase one at the front counter.
The Corporation of the Town of Georgina and its facilities are not responsible for lost or stolen articles that are not locked securely in a locker. We therefore strongly recommend that you leave anything you consider to be valuable at home or in the trunk of your car.

The Lap Pool temperature is maintained between 80 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit. The chlorine level is maintained between 1.0 and 2.0ppm. The pH. is maintained between 7.4 and 7.6ppm.
On occasion however, the water may be cooler due to make up water, which is added daily and is a requirement by law.
